Gather ’round, creatures of the night. Can you hear the sinister song of the terrible things that creep and crawl and come to haunt and howl? The wail of those dead whose rest’s yet to be found, or perhaps the moan of those trapped beneath the ground?
No? Well, no sense in spoiling the Halloween spirit. Try the next best thing: a playlist with lots of Ozzy Osbourne on it.
This week’s playlist, Austin360’s Halloween Spooktacular, is guaranteed to keep the scares coming at any costume party worth its weight in eye of newt. In addition to the Ozzman’s orchestration of all things dark and hellish, there are terrifying tunes from all genres, like the new wave groove of Oingo Boingo’s “Dead Man’s Party” and the soul scares of Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition.” The usual suspects are present and accounted for: “Monster Mash” by Bobby “Boris” Pickett, “Somebody’s Watching Me” by Rockwell, and “Black Magic Woman” by Santana.
Also get your ghoulish groove on to unsettling ditties by Lady Gaga, Talking Heads, DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince, and The Who. We’ve even included chilling showstoppers from “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” “Ghostbusters” and “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”
And the last song? Oh, just a little track we like to call “Thriller.” You might have heard of it.
(We can vouch for this playlist’s black magic cred. Legend has it that a web producer in the Statesman newsroom compiled it way back in 2013 when he was working the 2 a.m. shift on Halloween night. He was never heard from again after that night. Or maybe he started working the day shift. Could be either.)
