This week’s playlist: Chilled out

As soon as you can see your breath, it’s time to take it down a notch. While you’re getting your scarf out of the back of the closet, stow the frothy, upbeat songs of the summer and get ready for musical hibernation.

This week’s playlist matches this week’s temperature: chilled out. (Or it did, until the immutable laws of Texas weather asserted themselves and the mercury crept up a bit.) Even still, gray skies and dreary days call for only the most soothing, melancholy or otherwise contemplative tracks available.

The first names you think of when you think of chill tunes are here: Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, Belle & Sebastian, Sufjan Stevens and the like. Our mix throws some bones to the emo kids (American Football’s “Never Meant”), rap lovers (Ice Cube’s “It Was a Good Day”), jazz aficionados (“Moonlight Serenade” by Glenn Miller), folk lovers (Nick Drake’s “Pink Moon”) and people who enjoy Beyonce, also known as “humans” (“Nuclear” by Destiny’s Child).

Zip up that hoodie and press play on this week’s playlist, now on Spotify.
