About the artist

Alvvays always sounds like a lot of things — college radio, sunshiney drives down a coastal highway, the inside of an Anthropologie. The Canadian quintet describes their sound in their official bio with poetic accuracy as “tungsten-tinted pop that glitters like sea glass.” There’s an undeniably retro-minded haze swirling around breakout single “Archie, Marry Me,” and singer Molly Rankin’s candied but plaintive voice pulls on a sense of some bygone era’s innate goodness. (But, like, in a sexy way.) As for aesthetic, a look at the video for “Archie” shows that the band is picking up the visual vibe that Lana del Rey abandoned a “Tropico” or so ago:

Alvvays’ self-titled 2014 debut was one of last year’s best albums, and the pitifully lonely “Party Police” is an all-time ode to desperation. And yes, it’s pronounced “always.”

Could share a bill with: Best Coast, Beach House, Speedy Ortiz, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart
