Welcome to Austin360 Sessions! It’s a new in-house music video series that features bands performing live in our studio at the Austin American-Statesman.

Australian duo Luluc visited us on Friday afternoon during SXSW to perform “None But the Rain,” a Townes Van Zandt song. My introduction to the group came four years ago when I heard their recording of this tune on a Van Zandt tribute compilation. So taken by their version of it, I immediately ordered their 2009 debut album “Dear Hamlyn,” which was impressive enough to inspire me to fly to New York to see them play live a week later.

In 2014, Sub Pop Records released the band’s second album, “Passerby,” which topped the personal year-end lists from two of NPR’s most respected music staffers, Stephen Thompson and Bob Boilen. The group played an official SXSW showcase Thursday at St. David’s Bethell Hall, and will do a Doug Sahm song Saturday night at the Paramount as part of SXSW’s Sahm tribute concert.
