Merge records announced the signing of long-running Texas punk outfit A Giant Dog today. The band, led by power duo Sabrina Ellis and Andrew Cashen recently wrapped a recording of their third album with producer Mike McCarthy.

When their new label asked them to describe their sound the band said, ““It’s like watching Jerry Springer and then the TV explodes and suddenly the paragons of dysfunction in America are breaking apart your living room, (expletive) on your furniture, and making you the ham in a white trash sandwich.”

The new album is due out this spring and you can catch the band live in a few weeks when they play Fun Fun Fun Fest.

It’s been a very busy year for Ellis and Cashen. Their other project Sweet Spirit drops its excellent debut full-length “Cokomo” later this week. They premiered the recorded version of their explosive set closer “Take Me To The Party” on Culture Collide at the end of last month.
