Frank Turner & the Sleeping Souls at Emo’s. Like Austin’s rising star Shakey Graves, Turner recorded a duet with Denver singer Esme Patterson on his latest album. And like Graves, he favors juicing up a style grounded in acoustic songcraft with quite a bit of noise and fervor. Turner’s been doing this longer, though, since he left an English hardcore band a decade ago. On the new “Positive Songs for Negative People,” his sixth album, he sought to capture the live spark of his backing band the Sleeping Souls and recorded one song onstage at the fabled Washington, D.C., venue 9:30 Club. Catch a free sneak-preview of the show when Turner makes a 6:30 p.m. in-store appearance at Waterloo Records.

Also: It’s a night of reggae-rock at Scoot Inn with touring acts Pepper, Ballyhoo and Katastro. … Hard-rock touring acts Doyle, Calabrese and Hatchet make a triple-assault on the indoor stage at Stubb’s. … Top options among local Americana acts include Christine Albert at Z’Tejas, Freddie Steady Krc at Stella San Jac and Bill Carter & the Blame at Saxon Pub.
