With Valentine’s Day approaching, we asked a handful of Austin couples who play music together to share a few thoughts on how love and music intertwine in their relationships. We’ll post their responses here on Austin Music Source each day this week, and feature them in the Sunday print edition of the American-Statesman on Valentine’s Day.

EVE MONSEES & MIKE BUCK
Eve and Mike co-own Antone’s Record Shop, and they play together in bands including Eve & the Exiles and the LeRoi Brothers.
How they met:
Our paths crossed a few times before we really met, both at the record shop and at various clubs. We ended up playing on the same bills a few times.
Their special song(s):
Pretty much anything by Jimmy Reed.
“Dream date” or ideal romantic night:
Getting dressed up for a nice dinner at Justine’s followed by a night of music at Antone’s or C-Boy’s.
A Valentine’s Day or anniversary spent on the road together or apart:
We were married at the Ponderosa Stomp festival in New Orleans in 2010, so every year we’ve played the festival since then we tend to receive happy anniversary wishes. The wedding itself was perfect for us. We were surrounded by fellow music lovers and friends from all over that had traveled to New Orleans for the festival, which featured a lot of our favorite performers. We also played that night. The Relatives (gospel funk group from Dallas) performed our ceremony, and Lazy Lester was the best man. The perfect rock ’n’ roll wedding.
Across the pond:
Having the opportunity to travel overseas together to play music is pretty awesome. A trip to Switzerland a few years ago stands out as one of our favorites. It was so gorgeous and the food was amazing. We had several days in Lugano to play a Blues Festival, but it felt more like a vacation than work.
