The most vital voice in rap music today, Kendrick Lamar, who should have won the Album of the Year Grammy for his extraordinary 2015 release “To Pimp a Butterfly,” has just released a new album “Untitled Unmastered.” The Daily Dot dug up some background on the album from Grammy.com:
“”You see all these performances on these late-night shows—I got a chamber of material from the album that I was in love where sample clearances or something as simple as a deadline kept it off the album,” Lamar said last month. “But I think probably close to 10 songs that I’m in love with that I’ll still play and still perform that didn’t make the cut.”
The timing of the release seems to set up Lamar, whose tour dates are open from March 6 til March 19 (when he plays the inaugural Auckland City Limits Fest in New Zealand) for a SXSW drop in. But before we all lose our minds, let’s pause and remember Lamar’s March 15 release of “TPAB” last year didn’t result in him blessing us with his presence.
