Plenty of free things to do during SXSW

Side events aren’t the only free options during South by Southwest (although check out our searchable list). The fest also offers free events, including shows at Auditorium Shores, which start Thursday. Here’s a release from the fest running down their free options, including the all-ages Lady Bird Lake shows:

The Outdoor Stage is open to the public with free SXSW Guest Pass. Visit guestpass.sxsw.com for more information. SXSW Badge and Wristband holders do not need a Guest Pass to attend. 

SXSW Music Gear Expo will take place in the Austin Convention Center in  Exhibit Hall 4 opening on March 17 from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. and again on March 17-19 from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m and open to the public with a free SXSW Guest Pass. The Music Gear Expo offers a unique opportunity to connect with thousands of musicians and gear enthusiasts from all over the world. New for this year, The Les Paul Big Sound Experience, a traveling museum featuring interactive exhibits will bring the father of the electric guitar’s rich musical history to life. Also included at the Stompbox Exhibit, the Shred Shed, and the Synth Space.

Flatstock 53 – Presented by the American Poster Institute (API), Flatstock 53 will display the works of the world’s top gig poster artists. The show runs March 17 from 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. and March 18 -19 from 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. in the Austin Convention Center, Exhibit Hall 4, Level 1 and will feature posters of varying styles, colors and techniques for sale by the talented artists who created them. Open to all badge types. Open to the public with free SXSW Guest Pass. Available at guestpass.sxsw.com.
