Watch: B-boy crew Jabbawockeez breaks it down to Austin Boogie Crew Records release at NBA finals

Members of the Austin-founded funk collective and record label Austin Boogie Crew had no idea that “Heartbreaker,” the A side of a vinyl 7″ they recently released for Los Angeles Electro-funk duo Starship Connection, would be included in the halftime show of Game 5 of the NBA Finals in Oakland on Monday night.

In fact, when crew founder Danny Spence watched San Diego based b-boy crew Jabbawockeez get down to the track on live TV, he wasn’t entirely convinced he didn’t imagine it. Spence, who is now based in L.A., texted his crew member, local DJ Chicken George, and they hunted down a clip and confirm it actually happened.

“Heartbreaker,” the song Jabbawockeez grooved to, was originally released by Zapp & Roger in 1983. The Starship Connection version that leads the fourth release from Austin Boogie Crew Records is a fresh and funky update that dropped in April.

Needless to say, Austin Boogie Crew is ecstatic about the national look.
