We’ll do a deeper analysis of schedule conflicts closer to the fest, but there were no huge surprises in the daily Austin City Limits Festival schedules that the festival released today. Radiohead (obviously) closes the night on the big stage on each Friday. Kendrick Lamar holds down that spot on Saturday and Mumford and Sons edged out LCD Soundsystem for the closer set on each Sunday.
Beyond that, fans of dance music might struggle with whether to opt for South African weirdos Die Antwoord or master of jazz/funk fusion Flying Lotus on Friday. While we suspect no one will be hard pressed to choose between LL Cool J and Catfish and the Bottlemen each Saturday, some young fans might feel conflicted about former “Voice” contestant Melanie Martinez and British electro duo AlunaGeorge (who plays weekend one only). And on the first Sunday of the fest, fans of country music should be thrilled about the doubleshot of new school twang from last year’s sweetheart Kacey Musgraves (weekend one only) and this year’s hot new voice Margo Price, who play back to back sets. Another new country standout, Chris Stapleton plays the sunset show on the big stage on Sunday of weekend one. On weekend two, Austin icon Willie Nelson will return to the ACL stage to help usher out the fest’s fifteenth anniversary in style.
ACL Fest 2016 takes place on Sept. 20-Oct. 2 and Oct. 7-9. Three-day passes to both weekends are sold out. Single-day tickets are still available for Sunday, Oct. 2, Friday, Oct. 7 and Sunday, Oct. 9. More info and tickets.
