With just over a month to go ’til the first band hits the stage at Austin City Limits Festival, the only tickets that remain for the festival proper, set to go down Sept. 30-Oct. 2 and Oct. 7-9 at Zilker Park, are single-day tickets for both Sundays and high dollar V.I.P. passes.  The good news for music fans who decided not to shell out for a full festival pass? A host of ACL artists will be appearing at official late night shows.  The bad news? They might not be the artists you were hoping for.

Unsurprisingly, other than a Friday night appearance from the Major Lazer Sound System at Emo’s (Sept. 30), no headliners are playing night shows. There are, however, several high-profile acts, including local faves Blue October who hold down the Thursday night kick off show at Stubb’s BBQ, French dream pop outfit M83 (Oct. 1, ACL Live), the Cold War Kids (Oct. 4, Emo’s) and teen faves the Chainsmokers (Oct. 1, Emo’s).

Other notables appearing on the big stage at Stubb’s include poignant singer-songwriter Andrew Bird (Sept. 30), red hot folk ‘n’ soul outfit Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats (Oct. 1), sister act Haim, who play the annual Waller Creek Conservancy Benefit (Oct. 5), low country rock band Band of Horses (Oct. 6) and L.L. Cool J. who is joined by DJ Z-Trip and the reigning queen of Minneapolis indie rap, Lizzo (Oct. 8).

Of the smaller shows, Scottish rockers Frightened Rabbit (Sept. 29, Scoot Inn), rapidly rising R&B talent Gallant at the Parish (Oct. 7) and Banks & Steelz, a new collaborative project between Interpol frontman Paul Banks and Wu-Tang emcee RZA (Oct. 7, Antone’s)  all look very promising.

Sadly, the late night shows we were hoping for from Chris Stapleton, Kacey Musgraves, Anderson.Paak, Corinne Bailey Rae, Bombino and Andra Day are not happening.

Tickets to all shows are on sale Friday at 10 a.m.
