The traditional “Star Wars” theme wasn’t quite synced perfectly to the 11 a.m. opening of Zilker Park for the beginning of the 15th annual Austin City Limits Music Festival. But by the music was done, some of the couple hundred die-hards who gathered early at the main gate were off and running.
Most were headed toward the Samsung stage, where Radiohead is Friday’s marquee headliner at 8 p.m. “We’re here to see Radiohead!” shouted a handful of women at the front of the line, egged on by an ACL Fest video crew.
Among them were Amy Brown of Fort Worth, who claimed her space right at the front of the line at 8 a.m. Behind her were sisters Alicia and Serena Alaniz of Dallas, who said they’d arrived at about 9 a.m. This wasn’t the first fest for any of them, so they knew the routine.
Acts hitting the stage early include locals Asleep at the Wheel, Bayonne, and Nakia with the Barton Hills Choir. Other big-stage acts in the afternoon and evening include Major Lazer, Flying Lotus, Die Antwoord and Band of Horses.
