George Strait is coming back to the Heartland— at least, through a computer screen.
According to a news release, tickets for the 7 p.m. concert aren’t available for the public, but the show can be live streamed for free here, sponsored by Wrangler.
The news release also doesn’t list a performance venue, instead alluding to “the dusty floors and intimate setting of a historic Texas dancehall for a memorable night of music.”
However, a quick look at Gruene Hall’s calendar shows that the venue is closed Wednesday night “for a private event.”
The box set Strait is promoting with the performance spans the last 20 years of the Texas troubadour’s hits. His last box set, “Strait Out of the Box,” went platinum eight times.
“Part 2” is notable not just for including Strait’s first new singles since “Cold Beer Conversation,” his surprise 2015 album. It also includes a new song (“Kicked Outta Country”) co-written by Jamey Johnson, who wrote with Strait on “Cold Beer” and has written some other singles for Strait, most notably “Give It Away.”
The other new song, “You Gotta Go Through Hell,” was co-written with Strait’s son Bubba and Dean Dillon.
