Willie Nelson cancels 3 California shows, but still on for San Antonio rodeo next week

Concerns about Willie Nelson’s health rose again Monday night when the country legend postponed three appearances this week at Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace in Bakersfield, Calif., because of an unspecified illness.

However, his longtime publicist Elaine Schock said today that Nelson is expected to be back on the road for concerts this weekend at casinos in Arizona and New Mexico, and also remains on the books for a Feb. 16 appearance at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo.

The Bakersfield postponements came after Nelson missed two west Texas shows in early January and two Las Vegas dates in late January, also for health reasons. (The latter shows were canceled because Nelson had a bad cold, Schock said.) Both times, Nelson and his band returned to touring a couple of days later for several subsequent bookings.

Nelson’s next Austin appearance is the annual Luck Reunion at his ranch outside of Austin on March 16, in the midst of South by Southwest. He celebrated the end of 2016 in Austin with a sold-out, three-night run Dec. 29-31 at ACL Live.
