This week’s music picks: Echoes of Sonic Youth, shades of Simpsons and more

Wednesday: Thurston Moore Group at Mohawk outdoor. Austinites lost a chance to catch the Sonic Youth co-founder’s current project when weather concerns shut down Levitation Fest at the last minute a year ago. His new album, “Rock n Roll Consciousness,” follows a period of activity beyond Sonic Youth that included records with avant garde master John Zorn and the band Chelsea Light Moving. $18-$22. 6:30 p.m. doors. (Stick around later for local party-punkers Basketball Shorts on the indoor stage; $5, $10 p.m.) 912 Red River St. Moore also makes a signing-only appearance at Waterloo Records at 2 p.m. — P.B.

Wednesday: Okilly Dokilly, Beatallica, Stabba at Barracuda. A metal band in which all members dress up like Ned Flanders and play songs with titles such as “White Wine Spritzer”? Well, if you’re going to be a novelty band, you might as well go all-out. We’ll have more on Arizona band Okilly Dokilly in Tuesday’s American-Statesman and at, including an interview with “Head Ned.” $15. 8 p.m. 611 E. Seventh St. — P.B.
