Prince’s DJ Pam the Funkstress to play Prince tribute in Austin

Bay Area DJ, Pam the Funkstress is best known for her work holding down the ones and twos for radical hip-hop crew, the Coup, but last year she was tapped by global superstar, Prince to be his go-to DJ. She was basically on call, getting last-minute calls to play high-power parties, the same way Austin’s own Grupo Fantasma did during their stint as the Purple One’s backup band back in 2007.

“I look for that purple P in the sky and then I just run,” she told Pitchfork, in an interview that ran on April 12, 2016.

Less than two weeks after the story published, Prince was dead.

But Pam will be in town to help keep his legacy alive next week, when she joins the Body Rock crew in their fifth annual birthday tribute to Prince.

Tickets to the party are $10 at the door and include the opportunity to see Chaka from Riders Against the Storm looking like the Princiest dude on the planet.

Side note: Back in the day, Pam used to work the turntable battle circuit. She pioneered the technique of the breast scratch, literally scratching the records with her breasts. She’s a freakin’ national treasure people.
