Austin’s technology sector is our city’s great business success story of the modern era, but as Austin’s character has shifted from sleepy college town to cosmopolitan tech hub, the city’s music scene has suffered. Musician’s incomes have remained stagnant and venues, facing sky-rocketing rents, have faltered, putting the entire industry under duress.
On Friday, Sept. 22, the Austin Forum on Technology & Society will explore ways the two industry sectors might achieve a better synthesis in a “fast-paced discussion of new models and emerging solutions,” titled, “How Can Tech Help Save Austin’s Live Music Industry?” The discussion will include panelists, Dave Blue of Spotcaller; Charlie Faye, artist; Bianca Flores of Sound on Sound Fest; Clark Nowlin of All ATX; Stephen Sternschein of Empire Control Room & Garage; and Bak Zoumanigui of The FeedBak podcast.
The panel discussion is free and open to the public. It begins at 6:15 p.m. at Spiderhouse Ballroom, with a networking reception after the discussion. More info.
