March 15 is the date for this year’s Luck Reunion, the annual musical gathering out at Willie Nelson’s fictional ghost-town in Spicewood in the midst of South by Southwest. Top names on the bill this year include Kurt Vile, Josh Ritter, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, Nikki Lane, Waxahatchee and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
The lineup may give some hints about SXSW acts not yet announced, though artists playing the Luck Reunion aren’t necessarily also playing the festival in town. Other notables among touring acts in the lineup: John Paul White (formerly of the Civil Wars), Kevn Kinney (of Drivin’ N’ Cryin’), Hiss Golden Messenger, Lilly Hiatt, Aaron Lee Tasjan, Ezra Furman, Son Little, Twain, Paul Cook, Liz Cooper & the Stampede, Caleb Caudle, Blank Range, Joshua Hedley, Kevin Morby, Devon Gilfillian, Cut Worms, Night Moves, Hop Along, Buck Meek, Sam Lewis, Courtney Marie Andrews, Charley Whitten, Michael Nau and Sunny War.
Plenty of Austin and Texas acts are on the bill as well. They include Willie’s kids Lukas Nelson (with his band Promise of the Real) and Micah Nelson (with Particle Kid), John Doe (now living in Austin), Ray Wylie Hubbard, Kelly Willis, David Ramirez, Paul Cauthen, Texas Gentlemen, Cody Canada, Erika Wennerstrom and Altamesa.
As always, Willie Nelson & Family are scheduled to close out the evening. Nelson recently canceled a slew of winter dates while recovering from the flu, but he’s currently scheduled to return to the road on Feb. 28 in Florida, winding his way back to Texas by mid-March.
More details are available at the Luck Reunion page on Facebook. Tickets for the public are a little tricky, per Tuesday’s press statement about the event: “Tickets are released on a rolling basis via Luck Reunion and participating partners. Future ticket roll-outs will be announced on Luck Reunion’s social media channels.”
