This week’s music picks: Wild Child, Hotel Vegas bash, Monroe memorial, more

Monday: Wild Child at Waterloo Records. The fast-rising local band drew a line around the block to its record-release show at Empire last month. They’re hitting the road later this week for a long tour and thus won’t be around for South by Southwest, but they’ve added this in-store performance so that locals have another chance to hear songs from their new album “Expectations.” Free. 5 p.m. 600 N. Lamar Blvd. waterloorecords.com. — P.B.

Wednesday: Sun Radio’s fifth annual Larry Monroe memorial at Guero’s Oak Garden. A tribute to the longtime local DJ shortly after his death in 2014 drew such a large turnout that Sun Radio has made it an annual event, as part of the weekly “Texas Radio Live” series that Monroe founded. His successor, David Arnsberger, has made this year’s bill mostly about younger acts, with a lineup that includes Paul Cauthen, Kelley Mickwee, Reed Turner, Halleyanna Finlay, Tessy Lou & the Shotgun Stars and Kathy & the Kilowatts. $10 suggested donation. 6 p.m. 1412 S. Congress Ave. sunradio.com/trl. — P.B.

Thursday: Hotel Vegas/Volstead seventh anniversary. To celebrate seven years in Austin, the Eastside dive is pulling out all the stops with a seven-stage bash featuring 77 bands, comedians and vendors. The musical lineup is loaded with a cross-genre roster of local heavies including pop powerhouse Sweet Spirit, art-punk oddballs Big Bill, Peligrosa’s DJ Orion Garcia and honkytonker Corey Baum of Croy & the Boys. Food and drink specials include $1.77 Lone Star Light Tall Boys, Deep Eddy Cocktails and hot dogs before 7 p.m. and $7 burgers all night. Free. 1502 E. Sixth St. texashotelvegas.com — D.S.S.

Thursday: Carnival Beats “Past Present and Future” show at Continental Club. Back in the early aughts, local hip-hop production powerhouse Carnival Beats, helmed by brothers Salih and Tomar Williams, helped reshape the sound of Texas hip-hop by writing beats for Houston rap songs that became ubiquitous hits. They produced eight tracks, including the songs “Back Then” and “Still Tippin’,” on “Who Is Mike Jones?” the Houston’s rapper’s breakout release. The brothers are bringing back the old school action with a special showcase featuring Jones, Tamale Kingpin, Chingo Bling and more special guests to be announced. They will perform Jones’ classics live with him for the first time. Tomar Williams’ soul powerhouse, Tomar and the FC’s, and Salih Williams’ new blues project, Dirty Water, will perform as well. You can expect to see a few members of the family’s next generation in the mix, too. $25. 9:30 p.m. doors. 1315 S. Congress Ave. continentalclub.com — D.S.S.
