Season 14 of NBC’s singing competition show “The Voice” is going strong and on Tuesday, Austinite Reid Umstattd continued his rise through ranks with a successful turn in the show’s knockouts.
The 34-year-old rocker used to play around town in the alt-rock band Nelo, but in recent years, he’s been focused on a solo career. On the show, each artist is given a celebrity coach and Umstattd is competing as part of Adam Levine’s team.
More information and videos of Umstattd on the voice are available on the show’s website.
Umstattd isn’t the first Austinite to compete on the NBC talent show. Two local artists Tje Austin and Nakia Reynoso competed on the show’s first season in 2011. He’s the only Texas artist to make it to the show’s semifinals.
Here’s Nakia auditioning for the show with his coach Ceelo Green’s song “Forget You.”
Other Austinites who have appeared on the show include Suzanna Choffel, who competed in Season 3 of the show. Here she is auditioning with a breathtaking cover of Stevie Nicks’ “Landslide.”
Rebecca Loebe and Lex Land are both artists who have moved to Austin since competing on the voice.
Last year, Nakia established a new performance series called Voices in the Round featuring his friends from the competition. Their next show is on Saturday, April 21 at Bugle Boy in La Grange. The show features Nakia, Suzanna Choffel, Lex Land and Rebecca Loebe. More information.
