Hey ’90s punk fans: Jawbreaker is playing Statesman Skyline Theater in July

Margin Walker Presents co-founder Graham Williams says that when he was booking the Fun Fun Fun and Sound on Sound festivals, one of the acts fans most often requested was influential 1990s trio Jawbreaker. Those fests are gone, but he’s finally got the band: They’ll play July 13 at the Statesman Skyline Theater, on the lawn in front of the Long Center.

Local punk-rockers A Giant Dog and Buffalo indie group Lemuria will open. Tickets, $44-$99 plus taxes and fees, go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, May 4, via the venue’s website.

Jawbreaker — guitarist Blake Schwarzenbach, bassist Chris Bauermeister and drummer Adam Pfahler — hadn’t played for more than two decades when they reunited for last September’s Riot Fest in Chicago. Sold-out shows in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York followed. The Austin booking will be just the second Jawbreaker show of 2018, following a June appearance at Seattle’s Upstream fest.

The band’s four albums — 1990’s “Unfun,” 1992’s “Bivouac,” 1994’s “24 Hour Revenge Therapy” and 1995’s “Dear You” — found them gradually ascending from indie to major-label ranks and significantly influencing the nascent emo sounds of bands such as Dashboard Confessional and Jimmy Eat World. The tour for “Dear You” included an Austin show at the original Emo’s on Red River. The band first played here much earlier, stopping at circa-1990 Sixth Street alt-rock hot spot Cannibal Club after “Unfun” came out.

Co-presented by Margin Walker, the Long Center and Paragon Presents, the show is the first to be announced for 2018 at the Statesman Skyline Theater, which opened in 2016 with shows by classic-rock acts such as Boston, Culture Club and the Steve Miller Band. Last year’s lineup was considerably scaled back, with just two concerts by lesser-known acts.
