This week’s music picks: HAAM Day, KRS-One, more

Tuesday: HAAM Day across Austin. Shortened this year from the previous HAAM Benefit Day designation, this coordinated campaign is still very much a fundraiser annually raising hundreds of thousands of dollars to help the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians provide much-needed services to the local music community. As always, much of the live-music action revolves around Whole Foods stores — the downtown flagship’s tunes begin at 6 a.m. with Sydney Wright — but most of Austin’s premier music venues also will participate, and an evening event at the High Road on Dawson has become a top draw in recent years as well. Donations accepted at all events (look for the HAAM donation boxes). Full details at myhaam.org/haamday. — P.B.

Thursday: KRS-One at Come and Take It Live. The Bronx rap legend built a career working at the spiritual core of hip-hop. In his world and the world of his passionate fan base, hip-hop endures not just a genre, but as a culture, a lifestyle. His classic rhymes are weighty with meaning and the world could use a little more of his “Edutainment” right about now. $20-$25. 8 p.m. 2015 E. Riverside Drive. comeandtakeitproductions.com. — D.S.S.
