Fridays music picks: Afrofreque, Bombasta

Afrofreque vs. Bombasta at the Sahara Lounge. The pride of San Antonio, Bombasta Barrio Big Band has been mashing up an exhilarating mix of cumbia, hip-hop and rock for over a dozen years. Afrofreque is helmed by emcee Tiger Liu, whose pioneering band Big Game Hunter was one of Austin’s first successful hip-hop acts in the late ‘90s. The evening is billed as an “eastside soul rebel throwdown” at a revamped juke joint. It doesn’t matter who comes out on top. Celebrating the enduring diversity of Central Texas music is a victory for all. 10 p.m. 1413 Webberville Road.
